What Is Primary Food And How Does It Create Balance In Your Life?
What is primary food?
You might think it is the food we eat, but interestingly primary food refers to what nourishes us Off the plate. We call it primary food because wellness goes beyond the food we eat. We know that we all need food to survive, but primary food emphasizes that we’re multidimensional beings.
We need more than just food to thrive. Primary food is powerful because it helps bring awareness to the full picture of health. It reminds us to take a step back when we are feeling imbalanced and look at our health from a big-picture perspective. The circle of life (designed by the institute for integrative nutrition) is a great tool to help us explore the imbalances that might be present in the different areas of our primary food. There are twelve areas of primary food: Spirituality, creativity, finances, career, education, health, physical activity, home cooking, home environment, relationships, social life, and joy. Look at the diagram and the example done and try it for yourself to see which areas of primary food you need to balance in order to wholly nourish yourself.
Have you recently noticed that you feel unmotivated, fatigued, unhappy, criticizing yourself, feeling lonely, or needing some change but don't know what kind of change? By doing the exercise of Circle of Life, you can identify what is at the core of your feelings or what might be the root cause of some imbalance in your life. After identifying that area, you can set a goal of which area to start nourishing more. Start by small steps everyday to bring more balance to each area and do some check-ins weekly and monthly to see how you feel.
If you need some accountability in creating more balance in your life, work with a health coach to make sure you get the results you want to feel happier and more balanced.
